Delegation of Uzbekistan visited Luxembourg
On April 23-24, 2023, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited Luxembourg to attend the 17th meeting of the Uzbekistan-European Union Cooperation Council and hold a number of bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of European countries and the EU representatives.
The agenda of the meeting of Uzbekistan – European Union Cooperation Council included boosting relations in political dialogue, inter-parliamentary, cultural, and business exchanges, human rights protection, and the rule of law. The European partners have been informed in detail about the essence and priorities of the constitutional reform being implemented in Uzbekistan.
The delegations discussed the opportunities for expanding trade, economic and investment relations between Uzbekistan and the EU, including within the framework of the GSP+ system. The parties paid particular attention to the intensification of partnership in the areas of interregional interconnectedness. They noted the importance of accelerating joint work on the signing of an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, designed to open new horizons for the further development of mutually beneficial ties. The sides also exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in the EU – Central Asia format, the situation in Afghanistan, and other international policy issues.
In Luxembourg, the head of the delegation of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov held bilateral meetings with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel and European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen. The parties discussed acute aspects of Uzbekistan's dialogue with the EU in a bilateral format and within the framework of interregional cooperation.
Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov also held talks with the foreign ministers of Belgium Hadja Lahbib, Italy – Antonio Tajani, Finland – Pekka Haavisto, France – Catherine Colonna, Czech Republic – Jan Lipavský, Hungary – Péter Szijjártó. Ministers considered the issues of further strengthening bilateral relations between our nations in all areas.
